The District Plan says 'Local communities, through Neighbourhood Plans, can also identify green areas of particular importance to them for special protection'. These are called 'Local Green Space'. I've been looking at the Bengeo NP, and there they've identified a lot of them. The District Plan protects open spaces of various kinds (not all local Green Space), but the areas protected are oddly inconsistent, for example most of the meads in Castle ward are designated, but very little of the meads in Kingsmead, despite the fact that most of the Kingsmead meads are shown on the Ordnance survey Explorer maps as Access Land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. Some of the Foxholes Woodland ring is designated, but not all of it. I think a survey of all possible Local Green Space in the ward is necessary, so that it can be protected under the Neighbourhood Plan. I suggest that the whole of the Foxholes Woodland should be included for a start.

Hi Peter
The Green and Environment Working group has put together a listing of green spaces for the Initial Survey which we are planning to issue to Kingsmead residents mid to end of September. There will be the option for people to add areas in their response to the survey along with responding to many other queries on all of the topics.
Would you like to join this (or one of our other) Working Groups? We meet virtually and if you email me at kingsmeadneighbourhoodplan@gmail.com I'll include you on the invite list.
